People, The Heart of Carolina Meadows

Author: By Jan Ryder

Moving to a retirement community is a big decision. Like many of my neighbors at Carolina Meadows, I looked at lots of options and retirement communities.

I think of Carolina Meadows as a small town. We have neighborhoods, recreational facilities, great restaurants, and good governance. We have a great library, a nice gift shop, and beautiful gardens. There is nothing institutional about the atmosphere

We have a history of good management and resident involvement. But the heart of Carolina Meadows is its people. There is the experienced and proven leadership of management. It is the smiling caregivers and security personal, the friendly driver taking you to a doctor’s appointment and the dining staff eager to please. Smiles and personal greetings are the norm.

My fellow residents are a collection of very different people who happen to be old and getting older. We have different interests and backgrounds, but we like to share our knowledge, our talents and our time. We can individually pursue interests like art, photography, writing and music, knowing we can find others to share our accomplishments by submitting works for display or publication in our Resident Association supported activities.

Because of the dynamic make up of our resident community, we enjoy a wide variety of stimulating activities. Lectures on history or new technologies provide avenues of growth. Involvement in community governance through the Resident Association enables opportunities to giving back to our community, county, and state.

In a nutshell, what I have discovered in Carolina Meadows is happiness. I have new and rich friendships. I have neighbors that I care for deeply. I have new interests cultivated by community activities. After years of enjoying my well-earned retirement, it has been revitalizing to become a member of the vibrant community of Carolina Meadows.
