Many residents consider volunteer service to the surrounding community a mission — an opportunity to be good neighbors.

Coordinated by the Carolina Meadows Community Outreach Volunteer Committee (COVC), residents assist service agencies in Chatham County including the following:

CORA, the food pantry located in Pittsboro which provides food to hundreds of needy families. Residents not only help with food and monetary donations but assist on site – stocking shelves, helping with distribution of food to clients, driving to pick up available food from food banks and supermarkets.

Chatham Literacy Council, which uses volunteers to tutor children local elementary schools and to work with older children with their school projects. In addition, volunteers tutor adults studying English as a Second Language as well as those preparing for GED or citizenship tests.

Habitat for Humanity, which builds houses, but also sells used household items at its Re-Store outlet.

The Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center supports those in urgent need of help. It also runs Second Bloom, a store which sells used clothing.

In addition, people who lived in the area prior to moving to Carolina Meadows often continue volunteering at local hospitals, the Ronald McDonald House, SECU House, the United Way, etc.

Giving back to the community by volunteering is the Carolina Meadows way!
